Super Star Wars review

Ok so if we think back to the year 1993, the snes console were still pretty new in europe. High quality games were produced like butter, one right after another. But still there hadn't been a good star wars game, and star wars were huge in my school and between me and my friends. So when Super Star Wars hit the stores me and my friends played it like crazy. It was the best way to expierence star wars other than the movies. But nowdays we got plenty of star wars games that we can play, some are ok, others suck but some are real good. So the question is if Super Star Wars still holds out as a great game, but also as an great addition to the star wars universe?

I have bought Super Star Wars and Super Star Wars: Empire Strikes Back to my SNES recently (yeah I did it after playing through the Star Wars Battlefront beta). I already own The Return of the Jedi. I started SSW up together with a friend of mine and the first thing to hit us was that this will not be a walk through the park. The game is extremely difficult even on the easiest difficulty. There are enemies and projectiles flying everywhere so the player needs to be really aware of the surroundings.

There are so much detail in the game world, they´ve nailed all from the classic star wars soundtrack to how guns sounds when fired to enemies growl or death shouts. Ofcourse there are enemies in the game that haven´t been seen in any star wars movie but it doesn´t do anything because at the time the game was released the star wars world was a big mystery itself.

So the game starts at Tatooine, where you control Luke Skywalker in his quest of finding first C3P0 and then the story goes like the movie (almost with a few spinoffs), you will see areas like inside the Sandcrawler, more of the city Mos Eisle, inside the death star and also the attack on the death star. Most of the time you control a character that goes blasting through alot of enemies (hey you even get an lightsaber later in the game), but sometimes there are vehicles which you control. Vehicles like the Sandspeeder and X-wing are playable, and those missions stand out from the rest of them, here you have an objective to fullfill. Sometimes you need to massmurder Jawas and other times blasting down Tie fighters and defensive gun towers.

The thing I love most of the game is how the game takes it source material very serious but then does something new has well. Like I told you already there are some missions in the game where the movie never shed any light on but the game does in its own cool way. There´s also huge boss battles in the game, you will fight of the Sarlacc, huge defensive robot in the deathstar, also the tractor beam which is shut down by Ben Kenobi in the movie is an boss.
The game is still quite fun to play with some pretty difficult areas which sometimes are mostly based upon luck due to some poor controls (not always poor controls but sometimes). I would really recommend you guys to test it out if you haven´t done so already.

8/10, Overall the game is challenging, fun and a real contribution to the star wars universe.
